Located in between the areas of Dundarave and Park Royal, the first settlers arrived in Ambleside in the late 1800’s. The population increased after John Lawson started the West Vancouver Ferry Company in 1909. The ferries ran services from Columbia Street in Vancouver to the foot of 14th Street in West Vancouver as well as Bowen Island. Since that time Ambleside has developed into the heart of West Vancouver, and features a municipal library, community centre (with pools, skating rink, and gym), museum, city hall, police and fire station. Aligning Marine Drive & Bellevue Ave, Ambleside’s local merchants range from bakeries, clothing boutiques, restaurants, coffee shop, markets, medical services, banks, lawyers, veterinarians and more. Also known as West Vancouver’s Gateway Park, Ambleside Park is a fully accessible park which includes: a sandy beach, seawalk, dog park, par 3 golf course, tennis courts, skate park, beach volleyball, concession stand, and spectacular views of Lions Gate Bridge and Burrard Inlet. Ambleside also features many community events: Weekly Artisan Farmer’s Market, Harmony Arts Festival, Ambleside Live Music Festival, the Ambleside Mile, the Coho Festival, performances at the Kay Meek Centre, and the Community Day Festival on the first Saturday in June.
